Tanoto Scholars Gathering
Tanoto Foundation is organising a Tanoto Foundation Scholars Gathering at Kerinci, Pelalawan, Indonesia from 19 August 2014 to 22 August 2014. There will be about 250 scholars from different universities in Indonesia who will be taking part in the TSG2014. During this event, Sukanto Tanoto, the founder of Tanoto Foundation, will also be present to interact with the scholars and share valuable experiences that will benefit the students. On top of that, Anderson Tanoto, Sukanto Tanoto’s youngest son will also be present to interact with the scholars and follow through the whole event just to get to know the scholars better.
Tanoto Scholars Gathering is an annual event which provides leadership training, character building and networking opportunities to Tanoto Scholars. In 2013, the event was themed “Don’t Give Up Without A Fight” and “Set Your Goals High”, both of which represent key values embraced by the Foundation’s founders, Mr Sukanto Tanoto and Mrs Tinah Bingei Tanoto. There were more than 200 scholars from 11 partner universities who joined the gathering last year. These universities are Universitas Indonesia, Institut Pertanian Bogor, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Universitas Riau, Universitas Jambi, Akademi Teknologi Pulp dan Kertas, Institut Teknologi Medan, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara, and Universitas Islam Riau.
Tanoto Scholars Gathering 2013
This year, TSG 2014’s theme is ‘Learn and Lead’. The event will have many team-building activities that engage scholars to work together as a team and learn from each other. At the same time, these activities help to encourage scholars to rise up and lead oneself and others. There will be outward bound activities such as raft building and rope challenge that will bring out the leadership in each individual. Scholars will also be split into teams and required to put up performances in a short period of time to show their creativity and ability.
On the last day of TSG 2014, Tanoto scholars will be given an opportunity to interact with the founder of Tanoto Foundation, Sukanto Tanoto. This will be a significant moment for the scholars as it will be the first time they meet their benefactor and listen to his stories first hand, to understand the reason behind all the philanthropy and charity done by the Foundation. It will be a fun and memorable event for scholars to build strong bond and friendship with one another, and with the foundation.
